Mission
At Visionary Golf Design, we firmly believe there is nothing wrong with The Game of Golf—it is just about as perfect a game as the world has ever known. So, by creating Three Sticks Golf, we are not trying to change anything about The Game. We are simply promoting the development of a different kind of place to play…
The first thing you need to know about Three Sticks Golf is that it is played exactly like the traditional game of golf that one would play on a conventional golf course.
For example
What’s the difference?
And, how is it possible to fit a regulation-sized golf course onto such a small piece of land?
(as you probably know, a conventional golf course of this size—18 holes; Par 72; over 6700 yards—usually comprises AT LEAST 150 ACRES…that’s 2 – ½ times larger than a Three Sticks style course!)
Well, there are two unique features of a Three Sticks-style golf course, each having its own set of benefits.
Those features are:
- The golf course only has six holes
- Each of those holes has three flagsticks (hence the name Three Sticks)
how does it work?
For each of the six holes, the three flagsticks will feature flags with different colors. These flagsticks will be positioned at different distances, have different hazards to negotiate, and will generally lie upon their own distinct putting surfaces. This arrangement creates three separate and unique challenges on each hole.
However, be mindful that the flag color DOES NOT necessarily correspond to the relative length OR difficulty of any particular cup. Rather, the challenge for each flag color will change hole to hole when compared to the other two flag colors. In other words, sometimes the Red Flag (for ex.) will represent the easiest test, while at other times, the Red Flag will be the hardest.
On each hole, players can aim toward whatever flag they choose, but, the intended set-up is to play toward the same colored flag for each set of six holes, which will give golfers a mixture of trials and tribulations as they go along. Playing the course three times—toward a different set of flag colors each time–will give golfers the experience of playing 18 unique golf holes.
